I would like some honest advice on whether or not two male Boerboels could live together under any circumstances. I have one female aged 11 months and one male aged 4 months, plus 2 English Pointers, one of each sex. I would like to rehome my Boerboel bitches' litter brother but the breeder I got both BB's from is very concerned that the males, whilst probably getting on at this age, could very likey develop aggression problelms in a year or so, I completely trust her judgement as she is very experienced in guard breeds and is involved in appraising Boerboels, I would just like to know if there are examples of dominant breeds of the same sex that any one has in their pack of companion dogs.
Thanks

It's not so much the fact that they are the same breed and sex.
It's more an issue that two males from the same lines are liable to develop 'pack issues' as they grow older. They are more liable to have smiliar drive / domainance levels and temperment - not identical but similar. This will cause a lot of friction.
Two dogs that are different ages / breeds / energy levels etc. have less liklihood of developing problems because of their differences.
The breeder in question is experienced not only in the breed but in the specific lines that she breeds. Her boerbels might be more prone to this type of issue than others etc. I personally would trust her judgement, by the sounds of it she is fairly responsible.

Thanks for that, I really do respect her judgement and I completely understand the real potential for dominance issues, I suppose I am hoping someone somewhere will say with total commitment and proper discipline plus tons of excercise it might be possible, I feel so sorry that this fabulous boy is being rehomed through no fault of his own, ( the family who have him are being posted abroad, so our breeder has taken him back )and I know that is the wrong emotion to go into it with, I appreciate your'e reply. Thanks.

Well, for what's it's worth; keeping two males is easier than keeping two females.......so I've been told......I believe it.
It's always about how it's all managed, no matter the combinations or number.

It's funny you say that about the females as my pointer bitch is an absolute cow to other bitches, and her and my bb bitch are constantly fighting for top dog position! I really, really want to believe I could make it work and I'm not from the rainbows and fluffy bunny school of thought, I applied the theory that small children are like feral animals when my 3 kids were growing up and they have turned out fine! It wouldn't be for the lack of commitment or hard graft, but I know at the back of it all is a living breathing creature that deserves the best home available and maybe mine isn't it.....

I have a 1 yr old Boerboele and a 2 yr old Black Russion Terrier. Both male, and so far so good. I am a pretty consistant leader and do not leave the dogs unattended. If they are out, I am with them.
In my dogs, both males come from sound lines that get along with other animals. That being said, my boerboele breeder told us that the ONLY time he has had a problem is when there is a bitch in heat. So......

yeah the bb in question is still entire but I have been honest with our breeder and told her it would have to be nuts off if we take him as I plan to keep our male intact, I know there are two schools of thought over neutereing, some say it helps reduce the dominance and others say it heightens it, the only previous experience I have over the latter is a rescue boxer/mastiff cross we had years ago who was a nightmare around other males, that said, we managed it and he died at the ripe old age of 14 and shared his later life with a boxer bitch whom he never showed a minute of aggression toward, I really appreciate you all taking the time to reply to my question, thats what I like about this site, people with a wealth of experience, it really helps this relative newbie with a large dominant breed, I am always looking for input, good or bad! Thanks.

This would be my thought here as well. Different lines can vary wildly in terms of attitude. I personally have found it MUCH more challenging to keep the peace between two intact males vs. two females, even through fences.
I would only consider it if you are prepared to keep them separated at all times as that seems to be the likely scenario.
I would listen to the breeder here.

The master trainer at our facility keeps two un-nuetered males in her pack without issue (both males 3yrs old). She is a very strong pack leader, that constantly supervises, exercises, and trains her dogs. I think it can be done but it takes a special character.
