You are talking about a small lid, about the diameter of a coin?
If he's peeing and pooping normally, you are probably OK. Look for it in his stool in 24-48 hours.

Our golden retriever did the same thing at the same age. His got stuck in the value where the stomach dumps into the intestine. He didn't show any signs of illness or distress, but we were concerned so we took him to the vet. They did an xray and we could see a shadow shaped like the cap right next to the valve. They tried getting him to vomit (which was sad!), and they tried walking him like crazy to see if it would move, but it didn't pass through. Twelve hours later we had to do an endoscopy and they were able to grab it with the little claw things on the end of the scope - $1500 later! The ER vet said that if what goes in doesn't come out within 24-36 hours, you should get them checked out even if the dog isn't showing signs of distress yet. That was our experience just for info!

does this mean that he s trying to digest it or that it passed through the stomach already?
Lori would it be necessary to go through all that trouble?
i mean does the stomach digest it at the end of the day?
(i definitely can't affort an endoscopy now ... especially after all i went through a couple of weeks ago with karly s chronic diarrhea ... )
what about roaming dogs.. wouldnt they swallow all sorts of things? i realized from my previous experience that we can fall in the trap of being overly concerned about our pupps.. i felt that at some point we should trust (somewhat) that they will be alright.
(at least that s what i want to believe so i dont have a nervous breakdown ...
Michel, plastic is not digestible - it should come out looking same as when it went in. Bit chewed up, maybe. Unless it is labeled 'biodegradable'. In the best case scenario the object will come out the other end and you'll see it in the poop. Got to check every delivery if you are expecting it to pass.
isnt it the same with us and swallowing something like bubble gum? just curious ...
Yes and no:
- plastic is also not digestible and you want to see it all come out same as it went in;
- gum is pliant, usually rounded and is less likely to cause obstruction. Most plastic caps have ridges to make it easier to open the bottle. This may make it more difficult to pass.
