Hello, Maybe someone can shed some light on what is on my dogs muzzle? These bumps are differnt sizes and appear only on the muzzle. They are very visible 1st thing in the AM and then go away. Could this be an alergy? bug bites? She doesnt seem to itch them, maybe when she jumps on her bed and rubs her nose after eating. Is there something I could rub on her nose?
I have pictures I can send via email if someone would like to take a look.
The two things that come to mind are pimples...or puppy acne. My Bullmastiffs had it, especially as pups but even later if their face got 'grungy' Solution was wiping off their face with clean water.
The other thing is a contact allergy. Seen it on dogs with plastic feeding dishes or sometimes a toy. Also seen it on dogs nose from the plastic swinging dog doors at the kennel in dogs with plastic allergies.
If it is sudden and all over their face I would suspect sticking her face into something she oughtn't. Nettles, briars..similar.
Maybe if there is something you can narrow down to her being into before they are most pronounced. Maybe wash her face before bed. Is her bedding washed with softener or similar. Had a dog break out with some detergents.
Is it by any chance happening when you play fetch? My dog had something like that and it took me a while to notice that it was from him dragging his muzzle on the ground as he over ran the ball...Hope that makes sense
It only seems to be really visible in the morning. I have cleaned her bed area and everything she sleeps on. I thought maybe it was from sticking her nose in the bushes when we do our last walk of the night, but we didnt go last nite and she has them again. The are visible in the morning and then slowly go away in the afternoon. If bug bites wouldnt they stay. and they are different sizes. I can send you an email if you would like to see. Maybe I should take her to the vet but by the time I would get there they might be gone.
Her bed is clean and i use Woolight non alergetic stuff. It appears in the am and goes away during the day. I think maybe its a spider/bug bite. I just dont know. I have a pic I could email if interested. ?
I'm betting acne from her food bowl, or from snuffling around inside her crate.
Wash her food bowl out really well-wipe out the inside of her crate (if it's plastic) and use a little clorox in the water. A little folliculitis/staph. Just a guess.
My Malinois Caterina went through a phase of pimples on her muzzle when she was going into season a couple of years ago. It happend two heats in a row, that's how we figured out it was hormone related.
She never itched at them, and to be honest, it didn't seem to bother her a bit. Bothered me though!! I kept her muzzle clean to make sure that nothing got infected, and she was fine. It hasn't happened in a couple of years now.
I would hot pack her muzzle a couple of times a day. I think the hot packs bothered her more than the bumps did. They went away on their own once her hormones regulated. She did lose the hair on the muzzle where the spots were, but it all grew back.
Just a thought. I don't know if your dog is an intact female or not. I think I have a few pics of Cat's muzzle if you want me to email you so you can see what she looked like. Just PM me.
