I finished watching:
The Power of Training Dogs with Markers DVD
The Power of Training Dogs with Food DVD
The first two DVDs mention that we do no administer correction during learning phase.
I am in the middle of watching:
The Power of Playing Tug with Your Dog DVD
Michael Ellis mentioned that if the Out command is given, but not heeded by the dog, a correction should be given. He also mentioned that aversive & leash pressure work must be away from the exercise/training.
So my question are:
1) When should we start applying corrections? I understand that corrections should only be applied when the dog truly understands the command. But when/how will I know?
2) What is the best way to introduce corrections?
3) Where can I find more information about using corrections?
FYI, I am a first time dog owner. I have a 6 months old standard schnauzer.

Hi, Sherwin,
What is it that you're having trouble with and are thinking about corrections for?
We could respond to that much more easily (with better detail) than to a general "when to correct" question, I think.
"I understand that corrections should only be applied when the dog truly understands the command."
This means that the command has been taught so that the dog complies reliably, but also then proofed for distractions and venue changes and distance from the handler, etc. That is, a dog may understand a command only when it's given, say, in this order in a set of commands, in this particular yard, with no dog running by or people playing catch ...
"Sit" can mean to the dog "sit when I say 'sit' in this particular room, standing in front of you, looking at you" because that's what sit has been, so far.
"Where can I find more information about using corrections?"
