We get *a lot* of threads about people getting attacked by stray aggressive dogs while walking their own dogs, and I'm an strong advocate of firearms for self-defense.
However, I realize that some folks cannot or will not consider a firearm for self-defense, so I'd like to offer an insight into my second line of self-defense for dog walks:
Cold Steel makes an excellent shillelagh, it's just a walking stick so it can't be considered illegal even in the nanny states and boy, can it do some damage!!
Hey Will, thanks for the suggestion. I have always wondered what I could carry that wasn't illegal. This looks like the perfect thing.
I think Dennis is right, I might need some lessons on how to use it, but this sure looks strong enough and durable to last a lifetime. Not to mention the bite force of certain breeds!
I will look into this, thanks for the links.

I seem to have come up with a good solution for those annoying chihuahuas and other tiny dogs that like to bark at our heels as Nickie and I walk past their yard. I packed two small pine cones into my Leerburg bait bag and the first time the two tiny dogs raced out of their yard toward us, I tossed one of the pine cones at it. The dogs must have thought it was a hand grenade because they turned tail and ran. I have not seen either one of them for at least a month. Just to be on the safe side, the two pine cones are always in my bag when Nickie and I go for our walk each morning.
