HI EVERYONE,
CAN SOME ONE PLEASE HELP??
I HAVE MY 6 MONTH OLD GSD FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS NOW.
HE IS COMPLETLEY CRATE TRAINED,AND I THOUGHT HE WAS HOUSE BROKEN AS WELL,UNTIL TONIGHT WHEN HE WENT IN ANOTHER ROOM AND PEE'D ON THE FLOOR.
IM VERY MUCH ON TOP OF HIM AS FAR AS TAKING HIM OUT TO GO .WHEN WE GO FOR WALKS HE KNOWS GO OUTSIDE MEANS TO YOUS THE BATHROOM .I REALLY THOUGHT BY NOW HE WOULD KNOW THAT HES TO ONLY YOUS THE BATHROOM OUTSIDE!!I GUESS HE DOES NOT SEE THE HOUSE AS BEING HES DEN ALSO..MY QUESTION IS NOW THAT HES CRATE TRAINED,HOW DO I GET HIM TO KNOW THAT THE HOUSE IS NOT WHERE HE IS TO YOUS THE BATHROOM???ALSO HIS CRATE IS KEPT IN THE GARAGE WHERE HE SLEEPS AT NIGHT AND HANGS OUT WHILE IN HIS CRATE IN THE AFTERNOON AT TIMES,IS THAT A PROBLEM WITH IT NOT BEING IN THE HOUSE???
Take off the all caps and I am sure you will get more responses. All caps equals shouting-not to mention is a pain to read; and that is common knowledge (netiquette)
OK now for the *problem*
One relapse at 6 months is no big deal. If it happens repeatedly you have a problem and you start with a health exam.
Make sure you clean the area with a good agent to remove scent (e.g., simple solution, etc.) and it is ok to correct him IF you catch him in the act. Just go back to less unsupervised freedom and make sure his schedule is consistent.
Anyway you can get him into the house in his crate? The garage is not the greatest place for a dog to hang out. Lots of trouble in there.
when I first got Max, P'd right next to the bathroom. my guess is that my two boys have poor markmenship and Max assumed that was the place. I did exactly as Nancy suggested and corrected my two sons. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
