So there is no mistakes, I am talking about myself. I just got my puppy about two weeks ago. And for being in a hurry and imitating what I did with my last dog, I was rushing this pup. Instead of enjoying him. Thanks I was able to revisit. Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months, How To Raise a Working Puppy, and Basic Dog Obedience. They reminded me to slow down, and train my pup and enjoy him. Thanks for the reminder. Dan

I do the same thing now and then Dan. I went from a mature Rott to a German Shepherd puppy and then a second German Shepherd puppy. They're three very different dogs and I always find myself having to think about what I need to do with each one.

Steve, it is so easy to do. expectations for an exercise and not realizing that you are demanding much. I use to use an Ivan B. type training. A lot of movement, and commands, switching from active to passive activities on command. This pup is going to be eleven weeks tomorrow, Glad I have a life saver in Ed and His video plus this site. Hi Dan,
What are the differences between the system you are using with the new pup (as per 8wks to 8mo DVD) and the other system you mentioned?

Danillo, you are not the only one who gets in this mode... I did it when I first got Falcon. I was sooo concerned about not making all the mistakes I did with our last dog that I almost missed/avoided the knuckle-headed puppy stage. I initially got into the "gotta train/gotta teach/gotta exercise" mode and was driving both of us a bit nuts. Definitely slow down and enjoy the little fur ball... do what the DVDs recommend, etc... but also just bond and enjoy the little jelly-belly. You've got a life time of training and working and only a little bit of puppy.

Ana, that system I got about three years or so ago. It also talks about operant condition. The first Cd is technical behavior called Obedience Without Conflict By Ivan Balabanov, The second Cd is The Game, by same author. Where the Sit, Down, Stand is used while the dog is engage in biting the tug and in action, were you incorporate a passive command like sit, and the dog follows that command even thou he was very active in pursuing the tug. there is a lot of movement for distraction. All new behavior is also taught by food. I imagine it is two roads leading to the same destination. The name of the person mention above is on this user board were you can see comments. Dan

Barbara, Once I re-look at the CD's and got back to my pup, I felt so relieved, I saw a pup again. Not, Why He is not getting this, or that. Why handler mistake is not called knucklehead. So now, at least for the moment and hope for a good while, I will remember that "Rome was not built in a day" Dan

I've seen free clips from these videos and it looked very much like Michael Ellis system. I wonder what the differences are if there are any? With young puppies I was imagining something like lots of fun and markers but not too many commands just yet - "don't name it till you love it". Is this what you are doing now and liking it so much? I am thinking of getting the 8wks-8mo DVD but have to keep my Leerburg spending in check

And for being in a hurry...........I was rushing this pup. Instead of enjoying him. From my experience, with dogs and life in general, things always seem to progress at a faster, steadier rate when I am patient and not rushing things.
Funny how that works.
