ok guys, ive been feeding raw for around 3 weeks now. all s been going well. amazing stools.
then i added some liver and skin and he s had diarrhea for 2 days. i fasted him for a day, he had firm stools once, then gave him necks for 2 meals and added some meat after.
he s had mush and brown water diarrhea since i started feeding him again (yesterday). vet made me put him on flagyl and imodium for 2 days. no change.
what do u suggest i do? keep on feeding raw? or boiling the meat instead... or some bland rice diet? keep the flagyl and imodium going for longer?
pumpkin is an issue here.. doesnt really exist in this season + no canned.
It was probably the combination of skin and organ meat at the same time that did it. Gotta add it in tiny teaspoon increments, one thing at a time. So start with the skin- leave a tiny bit more on every day. It should take several days to work up to leaving all of the skin on. Then if stools are good, add a tiny bit of liver. Every day that the stool is firm, add an extra little teaspoon of liver till you get where you want.
I wouldn't jump to cooking the food. That will set you further back. Just put him back on whatever he was eating pre-diarrhea. Mine had a little trouble with organ meat in the beginning too. Just go slowly and you will be fine!

Michel,
Instead of pumpkin you can use potatos either sweet or plain boiled and mushed. I have a brand of instant potato flakes that i use as well because they are no salt and simply dehydrated potatos flaked which are perfect for quick application.
I actually prefer potatos for this application over pumpkin because my dogs eat it easier and it mixes well with nearly any protein taking on the flavor of that protein.
Yes, in the very beginning, mine had problems with organ meats and the fat as well. I like Melissa's idea about the instant potatoes as I would imagine most dogs would take to them rather easily.
You can always use some really boiled down rice as well, it will firm their stools too.
Liver is often one of the most difficult organ meats for dogs to tolerate without getting 'the runs' when first introduced & can still cause it if feed in too large of quantities later on.
Ok. That s what m gonna do. Boiling potatoes right now.
M gonna add them to necks and raw ground meat (can i mix them tog?). He did water all day today.
Question: is salt part of the all natural equation at all?
how long should i expect him to get better on mashed potatoes?
we ve been feeding him a mix of potatoes, necks & beef meat since yesterday (3 meals already), stools are still loose mush but not watery.
btw, his stools firmed up just only once right after i fasted him 2 days ago.
and today is his 4th day on flagyl and lomotil (imodium)and still nothing changed.
m just trying not to fall into another bout of chronic diarrhea ... m pretty sure you guys remember the last time.. m gonna go with what the kennel usually does. they take their time, feed like usual. no meds no nothing. they believe that the dog ll pass it in a while.
how much time should i wait to reworm him? last time was a month and a half ago. maybe some raw caused it? (dont really count on "fit for human consumption" stamp in leb, it simply doesnt exist)

give it some time there isn't a hard number of hours that works for every dog. Mushy is a big improvement from puddles. I wouldn't reworm him until he's 100% stable on digestion.
As far as doing nothing, once you're to the point of watery poo you should interfere especially with puppies. Remember even human children die of dehydration related to diarrhea every year. So I would continue with the medication you were given. Once you get correct poops then stop the immodium but continue to feed the high fiber food for another day.
Is there a reason you're so convinced that the raw caused this? It sounds to me that there was a food change that caused the issue.
A lot of things can cause mushy. You said you are giving him beef along with the necks. You could be giving too much beef- or if the beef is fatty and not lean, the fat in the beef can cause the loose stool. Can you give us a list of what he was eating prior to the diarrhea? And how you introduced the skins and organs? And then exactly what he's eating now. That will help of narrow it down.
