Both of my pitty mixes earned their CGC's last Sunday!!! I'm very thankful for the advice I received from people on this board. I thought my female would never be able to be near another dog without biting! She just doesn't like strange dogs going nose to nose now. I've started basic agility with both. They seem to really enjoy it. Thanks again
What a stellar accomplishment for all of you!
It can be a big enough hurdle to accept the fact that our dogs may not enjoy the presence of other dogs, but it's quite another to work them through it to the point where their reaction is indifference, rather than aggression. Cheers to you and your crew.
Thanks I have their numbers for AKC so I'll probally begin with Rally O shows. I did most of the behavior training with both dogs with a trainer I mentioned after my male bit my neighbor. She has an agility course set up. She taught us how to do it and I try to run them through it whenever we go there.. I have a great time. The female didn't like the tunnels, but she's a great trainer and she showed me how to get her through. The male doesn't get up high enough for all jumps and some times I crack up as the bull dog in him just hurls itself at the jumps with a "devil may care" attitude. He loves to please so he's going for it!
Just thought I'd post my small brag. At the Dunes dog Training club (I'm a recently added member) obedience show (June 26) my dogs both scored an 83 in beginner Rally. The male was faster so he ended up taking a 4th. I was just hoping to qualify so I was happy. My "pitbull type" rescue dogs have become show dogs. They were a little crazy in the crate as I was a steward for Open B. (I mostly assisted a clubmember who knew what to do). People had their dogs going up and sniffing the crate. My female does not like other dogs I had them in the same crate so she got him barking. I had to cover them with a sheet so they coudn't see any other dogs unbtil I could be free to correct them. THey were OK when I was there, but a lady with a Belgium Sheepdog was not happy with me or my mixed breeds. Sheesh! I guess I'm a mongrel myself: I'll never fit in with the purebred humans
