Oh, I see. I tend to fly into uncontrollable rage and become uncooperative and outright combative when parted with my pets. They are service animals. Always wanted to take my dogs shopping with me to Nordstrom - shoes, very special stuff, that. Got to develop this idea. I like it
We were joking about that at training. We said we could make our own little vests and then just take them with us saying they were training to be service dogs. We had been talking about a woman from my church who gets a Golden every year. She keeps him for a year and he even comes up to the communion rail. He has a little blue vest. I don't think she does any training with him. I'm not sure how the process goes but she keeps them the first year and then they go somewhere else for training. I'm sure someone on this board know the process for service dog training.
Whatever the case, I hope everyone continues to bombard every city with BSL. Pit bulls are actually my breed of choice (so versatile, athletic, drivey, good size, little grooming, healthy, great for family, on and on), and I have always wanted to train for Mondioring with one. We live in Denver, though, so our next dog will be a Shepherd. He'll be arriving in August.
At Nordstroms - "Yes, this is my service dog. Yes, he's a pit bull. My disability? Oh, well, I have an inability to limit my spending on shoes. He alerts me when I'm about to max out my credit card. He also guides me away from the Louis Vuittons. We'll be over there by the Jessica Simpsons......"
This story shows yet another misuse of the ADA using a "service dogs" for basically a bogus reason ( having the dog along prevents "panic attacks" ).
< shakes head >.
Lisa,
I did five combat tours in 21 years of service - I have PTSD, but.......having a dog to go "patrol your house" ( as mentioned in the article ) as treatment for PTSD is just stupid.
If you want a dog for increased security, that fine, but to say that you don't have to follow the rules to have such a dog, that's scamming the system, plain and simple.
