Please read and help. I first notice my Chico had a hard time going.(After two Turkey legs and chicken for several days) Even to the point of crying or a big yell as a little waste ball came out. but He continue in that position to go for several spots several areas. So I cut down on the bone and increased the meat content,(Salmon with one Egg, Beef hearth lunch, and Chicken breast for dinner). Now comes the problems, Gas, Soft water stool, very little. Still in position to go, but nothing but gas and now rumbling in stomach and finally vomit several places. I thought about going to kibble. Been feeding raw from 8 weeks old, now 15 weeks, I was going for variety. After chicken at the beginning of raw. Today I gave Chico a small can of pumpkin with two teaspoon of mineral oil to relieved any thing that is stuck. only food today was the hot dogs and water for training, went well, both times. And the pumpkin with mineral oil and lots of water after we play. He plays good and a good OB. Messed up both crates this morning, one with feces, one wit vomit. Did a small slow 35 minutes walk this morning. So he looks OK. Don't plan on give him any any food until tomorrow. Maybe some more hot dogs and water after one more OB training session. What am I doing wrong? I am, and was scared. Dan

Hi Dan,
First, I think it would be a good idea to calm his gut by fasting him, just giving plenty of water only.
It is hard to say, but it looks like too much bone and maybe even too much bone that is too hard, he might be having a hard time digesting.
It all depends on the pup, but I would stay away from bigger bones like turkey legs and go back to some softer bones like chicken necks and backs for now.
As for the pumpkin, I usually only give a healthy tablespoon per meal mixed in with the muscle meat. Even a small whole can is likely a bit much and might be responsible for the gas etc.
About the vomiting, was it just once and how long has it been since he vomited? That one you have to watch closely and if you need to, you can bait Chico's water with unsalted chicken broth.
I usually boil up some chicken with limited fats(skinless) and save this water. Let it cool and give it to him to drink.
You can also add unflavored PediLyte also add to the chicken broth, this should help keep him hydrated.
Let his tummy rest a day and then you can start giving him the boiled chicken to see how he does. If you are still experiencing the diarrhea, you can boil up white rice until really soupy, and give him some of that with the chicken.
This being just a temporary diet until you get solid stools and he is feeling better. Then I would proceed with a small meal of say chicken necks/backs with some muscle meat. As long as you are having normal logs, you should be back on track.
I would NOT feed any kibble at this time. The reason is that will likely just create more trouble than it is worth.
One day or even one meal missed is OK. It is good for the inflamed gut to rest.
But the boiled chicken, soupy rice and baited water are your best friends.
If I have forgotten anything, I am sure others will jump in here to help out.
However, if the vomiting is still going on, I would just do baited water and you might need to see the vet if that doesn't stop.
Dehydration in a puppy can be serious if he becomes very lethargic and listless, that is time to get in to see the vet immediately.
But if his energy is good, then start with the above menu and he should get back to normal within a day or so.
Keep us posted on how he is doing.
Hang in there!

"Today I gave Chico a small can of pumpkin"
A can of pumpkin? That's a LOT of pumpkin at once.
I thought I saw several vomit occasions. Dan?
... rumbling in stomach and finally vomit several places. ... Messed up both crates this morning, one with feces, one wit vomit.
Dan, to clarify: Was there more than one vomiting event? He is not now having diarrhea, right? He pooped this morning, right, and no meals since?
Because my first reaction was the same as Aaron's. It looked like a lot of GI events. I don't know what a can of pumpkin plus mineral oil would do, though.
What was the last GI event? The messed crate this morning?

Hi Joyce, my thoughts exactly on the ratio plus the hard turkey, not to mention He always looking for rocks or wood to put in his mouth.
The pumpkin was a small can, divided in two meals, He seems Fine, running as usual, lots of water, plus a fast. the vomiting was once, just in several places. seems like no more issue on that. He poop a couple of hours ago, was all pumpkin I think. He is pulling on tug and running as before.
There are a lot of good and new information for me. Thanks so much. Dan

Thanks Connie, Aaron is right. I did not know how serious it could have been. The crate incident was a spray of poop in his sleeping quarters, once I put him in the traveling crate, there was the small vomit, this was after he did this in the front yard, and on our way to the vet. This happened at 0500hr. So I was real busy this morning. I have my ayes on Him, but so far he is old self. I was scared and I saw love in pure form. That Salmon was probably too much couple with beef heart. Will not do this much again I hope. too much too fast. The pumpkin hard up the poop, this was from the vet helper. and the mineral oil was my touch in case he needed some help with the hard bone.He will be on fast until tomorrow with lots of water. Thanks. Dan

Hi, Dan.
Sounds like he will be fine! Next time, if you want to address an issue like this at the very beginning, no one here will mind being asked what to do while you wait for the vet's call back.
The mineral oil, I'd have recommended you not do. The reason is that "An old fashioned remedy has been the oral administration of mineral oil. It is best to avoid this temptation as mineral oil, being a light fluid without flavor, is easily inhaled accidentally into the respiratory tract" (marvistavet.com). I'd have suggested olive oil (or a couple of other oil choices).
"Plenty of water and a fast" is a good plan for now.

The pumpkin hard up the poop, this was from the vet helper.
Definitely! We talk about the wonders of plain pumpkin a lot here. But that was more than would have been recommended.
