I bought an Alaskan Malamute puppy, She is 8 weeks old now and named Bailey. I have had her for 3 weeks now, and I have noticed some problems. She growls every time my son (2 years old) picks her up to put her on the bed. she has bit at him (a few times at his face) when he was trying to play with her. I started training her, and went to congradulate her and she bit at my face.
She will be a lot bigger soon, and I do not want for these problems to continue or grow, as I have a 2 year old son, and recently found out, a new baby in about 8 months.
I have been reading about dominant dogs, and have started making Bailey sit and stay before doors are opened, entering the door before her, not leaving food down (or toys).
These signs that she is showing us, Could they be early signs of Dominance or Pack issues?

I have been searching for one of 3 dogs: Siberian Husky, Golden Retriever, or Alaskan Malamute, and found out its hard to find one of the 3 in my location. I eventually found post for Alaskan Malamute Puppies. The guy selling them has sold 2 of the litter prior to my seeing them.

Hi Aaron, Welcome to the forum.
Five weeks is a very young age for a pup to be removed from it's mother. It prevents the pup from learning a lot of important lessons from mom and its litter mates, as well as causes weaning too early, depriving the pup from very important nutrition. It is easy to understand how you may not have known this, but the breeder certainly did not do you or the pup any favors by selling the pup so early.
You are seeing that a two year old child is way too young to be handling, lifting, etc... a young pup. The only interaction I would be comfortable with with this age is petting the pup while you are holding the pup securely. And until we figure out what is going on, it might be best to allow absolutely NO interaction between your child and the puppy.
Have you had dogs before or is this your first?

Aaron,
There is a big difference between a Golden and a sled dog of any type.
What was your guide line in choosing the breeds you were interested in?

I meant separating from the litter at five weeks, and how that could come about.

I wanted a Bigger dog because I have 30 Acres of fenced in property that would be great for a dog of that size. A Dog that could run good, play fetch, and such.

One of the reasons to keep puppies with their litter mates until at least 8 weeks of age, is so that the puppies can learn manners.
With their peers, they learn that biting hurts, and are less prone to chomp down on someone's face.
That mistake has been made, and its too late to undo, I only add it for general information and future readers.
For now I wouldn't let a small child interact with the puppy- neither the pup nor the kid benefit from negative outcomes, and I'd hate either of them to develop mistrust of an entire species based on one circumstance.
Training is more or less impossible and unfair to a pup this age, as they have virtually no memory and attention span. Its best just to manage the pup's interactions and allow it some time to mature to the point where it is ready to begin training.
