I enjoy reading your mindful, considered words, and I beleive my stress level goes down a notch as I have to take the time to concentrate on the thoughts you've committed to the ether.
I am really curious about a paragraph in your post this morning re: pack hierarchy aggression. May I ask you to elaborate?
The quote is, "... I think we get discord between dogs, in part, by how we deal with an issue. It is easy, in my opinion, to have an unintended consequence when correcting a dog. I watch some people correct a dog and the effect is to reward the behavior when all the human stuff is stripped away."
My read on this statement is of a dog who does not care if attention from his person is negative, as long as it is attention paid. Am I very far off the mark?
I've "trained" one dog. A correction to him is a stern look and maybe a throat clearing. I have serious gaps in my knowledge. With a different dog I could easily have become exactly like your client of last evening.
I enjoy reading Mike's posts also. He "gets" dog training.
What I enjoy as much as his post is his signature. Reminds me of another good John Wayne line...John had just been forced to backhand a young man for being disrespectful to a lady. He tipped his hat to the lady and said "Sorry ma'am. Neglect in upbringing."
I think that describes some dog training issues as well.
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
