My Raw fed Bouvier is due to whelp in about 3 weeks. I am going to wean all the pups onto raw.. I am curious what is the best way to transition the pups that go to homes that choose to feed kibble? I am talking with all the potential puppy owners about raw feeding but if they do choose kibble I want the switch to be made in the best way possible.. Any food suggestions would be great also... Thanks
The only way to switch from raw to kibble is just to switch.
If the new owners really want to feed kibble, ask them the brand and switch before the pups leave to alleviate some hassel for the new owners who are maybe not sure of how to make the switch.
I would start 12 hours after the last raw fed meal, with a small kibble meal with a little pumpkin to try and ward off some of the diarhea, then just do really small meals for 2 days until they have all had good poops, then start upping the quantities.
When I had a 4 week old foster pup that had to be switched back to kibble before being adopted (shelter does not agree with raw) I used goats milk mixed with his kibble and I had some softer poops but no diarhea.

Puppies tend to switch pretty easy in my experience cold turkey from raw which is a nice difference between dogs without healthy digestion and dogs with a healthy gut flora. I'm pretty sure at this point I could feed my dogs anything and not have a digestion blowout. You can suggest something like The honest Kitchen as an easy go between if you want to be a little more cautious about it. I've put kibble in THK stew and it works just fine.
Thank you for the reply's.. I will be sending some honest kitchen home with the pups as they will have been introduced to that as well as the raw...
What are some of the best kibbles I can encourage to new families that choose kibble????
thanks Jackie
I feed my pup the Solid Gold Puppy formula called Wolf Cub.
It's the same company that makes the Barking at the Moon adult food sold here on Leerburg. My pup loves it.
