We took our 4 1/2 month old GSD to the beach yesterday. He was running around biting waves. After that he had diarrhea for the rest of the day. By the end of the day it got better. However he did not poop at all today, since 8pm yesterday evening. It never happened to him before.
Should I be concerned about him not pooping for about 24 hours? He eats drink and playes normally just as always.
hard headed 2year old male bichon, was 6 weeks in cage only at shelter. Poo is out of control, holds himself until we are absent and away from house then relieves himself,so far even with crate use for a couple of days he will hold it until we are absent

Hi Gary--welcome to Leerburg. Probably best to start a new thread with your question, and you'll get more responses.
Tell us more about your situation. Is this a dog you've just recently gotten from a shelter? Or have you had him for a while?
I don't think hard-headed is the right way to look at this (with the implication that he's somehow doing this out of spite, or in disregard to your wishes.) He clearly has some kind of "issue" with pooping---because he associates relieving himself with some bad reaction from you (or another person in his past, perhaps.)
How do you react when you find the poop?
What are you doing training-wise to teach him where pooping is appropriate?
Is he free-fed or on set meal times?
The more info you give, the better we can help.
Again, welcome--you've found the best resource on the web for dog training!
He is a rescue dog from the shelter. Lucky spent about 6 weeks in the shelter before we rescued him. He is approximately 1-2 years, not yet neutered (July 6 is his day).
The poop situation - Lucky waits until we are outside and seemingly gone and within 2-5 minutes he relieves himself inside in the same spot every time if given the opportunity. We have been putting him on a leash for an hour at a time outside by himself, and he usually does nothing until we bring him back in and leave the house. He has been successful on a few occasions and we have praised him lavishly.
We have been using a crate and he has pooped in it, also. We have given him very little room in the cage - just enough to lie down and turn around and stand up.
We do leave his food down for him because we never know when he is going to eat. He is not a picky eater, just seems to eat at different times.
He seems to have some fear of letting us see him relieve himself. We can get him to urinate outside with ease even if we are around. We have tried taking the poop out and making an area for him to use, showing him where it is, and he does nothing. We have also tried using training pads but he goes next to the pad instead of on it.
He seems to be an inside dog. Knows household manners but has tried to escape from us on 3 occasions. We are using an electronic collar for training and he knows to come and sit, usually. When acting out he simply ignores our commands and takes off should we not have the collar on him or the remote with us. He was good for 5-6 days but suddenly bolted the other day again.
We know nothing about his background. It appears he may have been very loved, as he loves affection and to sit near us at all times. He wants to sleep with us but we do put him in a crate instead. When the shelter picked him up he had a very heavy collar and short leash on it. He was wearing a rabies tag but it could not be traced. They had no idea how long he had been wandering around. He was very dirty, matted, full of burrs, and had sores on 2 of his feet. We had to shave him and bathe him to even get him looking decent.
Lucky is a Bichon Freze and weighs approximately 13 pounds.
