I have been waiting a very long two years for this puppy to come into the world! The wait was made even more difficult by the passing of my incredible GSD, Zodi, over the bridge a year ago April. To say I have been bereft without her is beyond understatement. Not only have I not been able to post a proper tribute to her, but I find I have to stay out of that kind of post, period.
Ever since Zodi left me, I have known that for me, true healing would only come when I finally have my next girl to love and raise and train and turn into another incredible agility partner, as well as my constant companiera. That this (for me) momentous reality is now on the actual event horizon has had me blubbering on and off since she was whelped earlier this afternoon. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but there you have it .
This puppy is a Dutch Shepherd. She comes from Risen Star Bas FR3 PSA1 CGC and Vrijheid's Bonita VPG1 FR Brevet. Asheley Lane, her breeder (Vrijheid), is an incredible breeder, who has produced some amazing Dutch Shepherds.
So, in two months (8 weeks sounds shorter, doesn't it?), this little girl and I will be starting our new life together. Oh The Places We Will Go (to paraphrase Dr Seuss).
Leih, I am so happy for you! I'm raising my puppy right now and I can't explain the joy that comes from it! Don't get me wrong it's hard work but I can't wait for you!
It's good that you are dealing with your grief over your last dog. Dealing with death is always tough. I have lost a few family pets and I work on an ambulance so I understand how difficult it is. The only advice I can offer is to remember, admire, and grow from your experience
Dutch Shepherd's are awesome too! You better link us to a ton of pics when you get her! What training philosophy are you going to follow? Oh and what color is she?

Not sure what color she'll end up being...right now, the pups are all dark with gold brindle. But, the stud dog's coloring is a gold background with brown stripes, while the dam is dark with gold brindling. I know my sable GSD changed a lot over the first several months, and I'm not sure how the coloration varies with DS pups as they mature. I can tell you this; whatever coloration she ends up with, I'll think she's gorgeous .
I'm a positive motivational trainer. I use clickers and verbal markers, as appropriate and depending on the situation.
You bet there will be lots of pics! I've even got a Flip video camera thing I've been saving for her...now I've gotta figure out how to work it .
I wish you happy preparations during the next weeks!
Thanks, Jaana. I've been saving up tons of study materials...old books to reread, new ones, and videos to study. I even worked a census job to be able to save up some moolah to be able to buy all the new puppy stuff one needs (or wants ).
Asheley does breed some excellent Dutchies. I will follow your pups development with great interest because I have considered adding a pup from her kennel next spring. (Keep us updated, will you?).
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
I am so very happy for you and can't wait to hear all about her when she comes home! I can not wait to see pictures as well.
Thinking back on all the fun puppy moments, I wish you nothing but all the very best in the months and years to come.
She sure sounds like she comes from great lines and a great breeder.
Also, I wish to give you my deepest sympathy for your loss of Zodi. May healing come when your new girl comes to you.
