Hi! All: once again having an issue with Luna my 2 year old gs.
My 93 year old mom in moving in with me and I had to move the
computer into the bedroom (The Elephant in the Room). Luna hates
it. She wakes up in the middle of the night walks over to my
husbands side of the bed (she takes turns sleeping next to me
and then next to him) and starts growling and barking at the
computer. I have tried treats, allowing her to be in the room
with me during the day etc. When night comes she goes balistic
over that computer but only when she wants to sleep next to
my husband this usually happens around 3am and she has to pass
the computer. Needless to say this is driving us nuts and has
been going on now for a week. Any suggestions?
Barbara: Thanks, that certainly is a simple solution. I'll try
anything. Me and Hubby are getting cranky.
FIRE HAZARED
make sure it's unplugged, even tho you turned it "Off" thru the menu the power supply and motherboard is still energized. it needs ventilation to cool off
If it were me, I'd get up look out the window wondering wth the ruckus was about.
Give the dog a pat on the head....good boy....it's okay.....and calmly get back in bed.
Next night the same thing.
After the third night my patience would probably wear thin to the point of.......ENOUGH already....I'm tired of this BS!
Dennis: Thanks for the remind.
Randy:I doubt Luna would get the message. But will try. Do you
think she will think that she is being rewarded for barking
at the computer? Not at barking which made me get up to look
out the window?

I was picturing the monitor - not the entire computer being covered, but your point is excellent. Simply turning it off makes even more sense!
This reminds me of when we stayed in a little cabin near Moosehead lake with a bear skin- including the head- on the wall. My husky went crazy barking until I covered the head part with a towel. He would bark if the towel slipped a bit and an ear poked through, but otherwise, ignored it.
As others have suggested, a simple towel/sheet solution is the first thing I'd try.
Also, turning the computer completely off is a good point. I've sometimes noticed certain computers making a very high pitched whining noise- even when shut down. Unplugging AND shutting down the computer should eliminate this. Sound is likely playing a role here, as dogs can hear higher frequencies than humans.
Then again, maybe Luna knows something about the computer you don't...
Is the computer completely shut down at night, or is there lights/flashing, fan noise, any noise that she doesn’t notice during the day? She is reacting to an unfamiliar object, I would work with her in a positive, casual way, no forcing, to familiarize her to it during the day. I like Randy’s suggestion as I want my dogs to bark if they are unsure of things, so I could check it out, going to the window is a good idea!
