I run 3-5 miles most days with my GSD. he loves it!
However the 6 foot leather leash makes running hard as it stops the movement of your arms. "Case", my dog always runs a few feet ahead of me and even with a prong collar, the leash is quite taught. Running with one arm still and out ahead of you is very tiring. Normal running has your arms moving in rhythm back and forward.
Would the police leash work for me? It would mean the dog is attached to my torso and would free up my arms for running.
Any suggestions are very welcome. I also have the Leerburg 20 foot training leash. I've thought about wrapping that round me but it's so long!
Check that bad boy out! haha! I haven't used this leash but it looks awesome! I have bought other ezy-dog products, like their harness which is awesome, but just check it out!
Too bad about your toe, Rob. Your situation brings up a question I've had, though - what to do in the event of a handler injury and a highly active dog?
With a broken toe, you could bike still, right?
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
I play fetch. Human stands in one spot, dog runs around like crazy It's also a good time to do some trick training or other mentally stimulating stuff.
Last winter I was very sick for about a month and my daughter (who runs) took pity on me and exercised my dog.
I have the Buddy System. I loved it at first, and not I mostly use a regular Lupine leash. I got the "lunge buster" for the Buddy System, which I like. In the end, I'm a little mixed on it, as you can tell.
Word of advice...Make sure the leash part isn't too long so that when your dog moves nearer to you, you don't end up tripping it goes under your feet. I nearly went flying a couple of times. Because of that, I end up holding the leash part in my left hand anyway, even though I shortened it...gun shy about falling. Let us know what you think!
