I ended up having to take Kasey to the vet this morning to see the on call doc. The inside of his ears looked like they were on fire this morning. The vet said he is allergic to the Ottomax. Great! So I had to stop all ottomax and give him prednisone and antihistimine to try and calm down the allergy reaction. They said they run across this from time to time.
We're probably going to have to do the cleaning out thing next week after the allergy symptoms subside a little. It's too sensitive to do anything to right now.
I asked about the olive oil thing, and they don't recommend that because a dogs ears are nice and deep and dark and can easily grow bacteria and yeast. The oil will only make that a more suitable place for it.

I wish Kasey luck! I have a friend whose boxer has a similar problem and got the advice here to try coconut oil as a supplement. My buddy is trying it, I'll report if he has feedback one way or the other. Prednisone has some nasty side-effects, but does get inflammation down to a point you can get in there and clean. Hope he's back to normal quickly!
