Hey guys new trainer here. Very new. I was thinking with my next dog I would do Schutzhund. If for some reason that does not work out for me, are there any other sports that would be good? I know a lot of it depends on the dog. Im not familiar with all the different sports out there. The problem with me doing doing schutzhund is club location. The closet one I've found so far is about an hour and 45 minutes away in Tulsa. I live in Ponca CIty. Maybe Wichita has a few clubs.only about an hour and 15 minutes from me. With my work schedule it would be tough. I would still attempt to do it, but im just weighing out all my options. All feedback welcomed.
There are plenty of sports out there if your dog does not excel at Schutzhund. There is obedience, tracking, agility, herding, etc. I suggest going and visiting various clubs that do various sports so that you can see what goes on in those sports. My breed is not known to excel in SchH but we muddle along for the fun of it. However, I do as many various sports as I can with my guys as I (and they) enjoy variety :-)
I checked the AKC site and there is an obedience/agility club in Ponca City: http://myweb.cableone.net/vandenbos/Kay-9DTC/ Don't know anything about other than what is on their website but it probably would not hurt to check them out :-)
