I've been very careful with the diet I put the dogs on, they were putting on some pounds, winter weight, so all four of them went on a diet and we increased the exercise. I was all happy and stuff after I washed and brushed them out when I got to see a rib or two. It was hard with Max because Mrs Jones kept sneaking him treats and with Maggie because of age and hip problems, have another story about that, Erika and Roxie was easier because they are high energy and I completely control their food. Well I had to go to my Dr the other day, I'm seventy pounds over chubby, Cholesterols and triglycerides could be a little lower and I eat way too much baked stuff....
Anybody else a Diet hypocrite?
Maggie's diet Story:
Her hips are to the point I was considering PTS, when I almost screwed up enough courage to make the arrangements, Maggie caught a rabbit in my garden and was chowing down on it with gusto. Maggie is going to stay with us a little longer. Not that I need her to chase rabbits, the fact she still has the drive and health to catch one.

Guilty.
I actually try pretty hard though. At home I eat mostly vegan and preservative, artificial coloring/flavoring free, all natural stuff. But at work (I work for 9 doctors) drug reps bring lunch for the entire office. It's never healthy. It's easy to bring my own food, but much cheaper to eat theirs. And I'm a broke college student. And I really, really, really love a diet soda here and there. But they also help with my migraines.
I exercise (cardio and sit ups/crunches) at least minutes almost every day, plus mountain biking a few times a week. I'd like to do more though. I will when I move out and have a dog to walk every day.

I was just thinking about this the other day!
My dog eats all these fresh, natural. high quality foods. She gets fish oil and vitamin e everyday along with a glucosamine/msm/ester c supplement. I watch her weight and go the extra mile to keep her healthy.
I have lost weight since I got her, but it is definitely creeping back on.
What I burn off with our walks and hikes I make up for in ice cream. I also drink coffee all day long, smoke and eat all sorts of crap.
I need to be as good to myself as I am to my dog!

Let's see, I have been struggling to lose weight myself but did manage to take 8 pounds off Robin since I got him in January. Guess I need someone to limit my food intact like I do him :-)

Oi... I met with a friend who is a nutritionist this past Sunday, and following her advice and adding 45 minutes per day on the treadmill, I've lost 7 pounds since last Sunday. Does that perhaps indicate I was ingesting too many treats?
Watching carbs, but not eliminating them, adding lots more fresh stuff, etc... it is amazing what paying attention to what I'm eating can do... and no, I do NOT expect nor want to continue at this rate but it was certainly a good incentive to keep on working at it!
And Dennis, I'm so glad Maggie showed you she still has what it takes...

And I really, really, really love a diet soda here and there. But they also help with my migraines.
A friend of mine told me he used to have bad migraines. He started taking chelated zinc/magnesium. Initially he took it daily and the migraines dissapeared. He just takes it occasionally now and only has occasional mild migraines.
I told another friend of mine about it and she started taking the chelated zinc/magnesium and her migraines have gotten much better too.
As far as my diet: I read Jillian Michael's book "Master Your Metabolism", boy was that an eye opener as to what the crap we eat does to our bodies. No more MSG, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial sweeteners for me!!!
My biggest food weak spot is the generous amounts of creamy milk that I drink and the butter that I slather on my food. It does help my over-all fitness level when I milk the cows (you should see my "milking arms" ), churn the butter, move fence and clean the cow barn. I still need to "eat less and do more" as Dr. Laura would say.
It's so much easier to cut the dog's portions down when they are looking a bit round than it is to cut down my own meals.

The dogs eat better than we do...and get more exercise.
I try to eat healthy, but we eat out way too much... at least twice a week with my folks after my son's baseball games.
And I drink coffee all day long a lot of times, and smoke.
But I only allow myself candy for two days a month, and I watch my intake of total junk food.
I do need more real exercise.
