I have an assoicate that lets her male dog out to releive himself and he takes off not coming back until the nearly daylight. Now in that daylight hours he will not leave the yard but at night, if she does not catch him before he runs off he gone for hours. She disciplines him when comes in, but the very next night, he's gone again.
She asked how can she stop this and why do I suppose he does this.
1.)I came up with she may need to lead him out on leash to do his thang.
2.)And that there maybe a bitch in heat around the corner or somewhere and he visiting her at night. This just a hunch.
Number 1 would solve the problem, but I don't know about #2, I'd think day or night if a bitch dog was in heat, he try to make a break for it.
What's the board opinion??? Of course she says she has complete control of him.
Well - if she is correcting him when he comes back she the dog is thinking - "I get in s@$^
when I come home - therefore I won't come home!"
Dogs like to run at night - it is fun! unobserved garbage diving! pee and poop where you want! check out all the local girls and mark your territory! If you caught crap whenever you went out at night you would make sure to make it worth your while. I think she needs a fence or a leash or back to obedience training on "come when called"

I hope he's fixed! And who cares why he's doing it, he should not have that opportunity!!!
I don't think this belongs in the dominant dog section either. We need to add a stupid owner section. People like this are the reason good dog owners are disliked and can't travel, rent, etc.
