Ehn.... I really frown upon these kind of tactics from either side of anything. It's wrong to exploit kids for a cause when they are not of an age to make an informed decision.
I don't worry too much about it. When they're that age, its our job to give them their opinion anyway. There's plenty of time later for them to rebel and start thinking for themselves.
LOL. My kids are older and have their own opinions(the brainwashing hasn't been working , fortunatley they are against putting down dogs because of their breed. Unfortuately emotions are what these BSL laws are often based on. I thought they were cute, especially those from kids who had pitbulls.

*shrugs* I guess. I just see it as pandering to emotions in adults without consideration to the kids involved. It's exploitation pure and simple and I don't care if it's anti BSL people or those morons at Westboro Bapist, wrong is wrong if I agree with a belief or disagree. I don't see a purpose of having kids at political rallies or backers to a cause except to appeal to the emotional side of people to get a strong reaction.
If logic is clearly on your side then fight the irrational with logic, don't sink to their level.
ugh mine are 12(girl) and 15 on 9/11 (boy). Apparently I am begining to know less and less uless it's blatantly obvious AND I am unable to remember how to choose the shortest distance between two points while driving whilst he teenagers who don't drive always know a better way to go. As for considering the kids I think it was a call out. If parents are involved in anti BSL the kids will know about it, mine do. These children drew picture age appropriate activity) and wrote what they felt. It can be seen as a writing and illustrating activity as well as a lesson in politics and democracy. I can see how one might feel thatit was using the young, but as an educator I fell these are acceptable as well as educational activities. They weren't forced it seems like they felt they were helping the cause and contacting their represenative. When they can't vote they want to be heard somehow. We wrote letters to the president when I was in gradeschool...President Carter I think it was delivered by the pony express
I see involving my kids in areas that interest or affect us as part of raising them. I don't want to just let them make up their own minds so that I can be their friend. If I can't be an influence to them as their father, why do I even need to be there. Are you in your 20s Melissa?
Over past ten years or so there have been many political hot topics that have sparked protests and anger. Then came the 2008 political rallies.
You always see pictures of young children at these rallies, often wearing t shirts and holding signs that bear slogans ranging from strongly opinionated to hateful, and sometimes just plain stupid. I see those pictures and feel the same way as Melissa.
I think it is good parenting to get kids involved in activist causes and to teach them to stand up against things they think are wrong, but there is a fine line between teaching your children that action can make a difference and using your children as a billboard to gain sympathy for your cause.
