It's working, all your wonderful suggestions are working. The boys are looking (marginally) better, but the cranky mare isn't cranky any more AT ALL!
I think she just wanted a proper leader. I may not be there yet but she seems to appreciate the fact that I am trying. I have had people that knew her just a month ago saying the change in her personality is astounding. I am so pleased with her and myself. I was terrified of that beast and I caught myself yesterday casually brushing flies off her. She no longer pins her ears and hasn't even thought about removing my head with her back feet.
She really does seem to enjoy attention and has been coming up to the fence for pets and hugs.
Marker training next. So, for treats - sugar cubes? Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone with your suggestions and words of encouragement. I am so proud of her right now,I'm almost beaming.
Marker training and continue GW, any thing else I should know?
(I love this site, I love this site.....)
That is good the Horses are coming around. They are at much more peace when they have a leader.
I do no know if you plan on riding any of them, but be sure to desensitize and sensitize equally.
And I can not explain it, but I will try my best. Horses can see though a person, probably better then any animal I have ever worked with.
So, remember body language and inner energy is very important. So is ending your daily training on a good note.
We work pretty much exclusively with Arabians and Thoroughbreds. So I understand the high energy nervous feeling at times when handling a green Horse.
There are a few Warm Bloods I would not mind owning. Like a Friesian and even a few Cold Bloods I would love to own, like a Clydesdale.
But for the most part I love them Hot. Hotter the best. Easier to train, easier to ride.... I love a forward Horse.
I like the snap open bait bag from Leerburg to carry horse treats.
I generally use those little-lumps-of-clay looking horse treats that Orscheln sells (sorry I can't be more specific). My horses also go nuts over apple slices or carrot pieces.
Sorry, gone from the 'puter for 3 days.
Thanks, I'll go shopping for horse treats first thing in the morning.
Turns out, she really is a sweet girl. Funny thing is, she is now more relaxed and is starting to put on some much needed weight. Poor thing, I guess she's been fretting it off or something.
Thanks for all the help, guys. Time to start (respectfully) spoiling her/them lol
