Went to Petco, ended up getting a few dog toys. The dogs loved the tug tennis-ball-on-a-rope. There was a giant plush jack (those of you raised on video games may not even know what a jack is) with squeakies in it. The dogs were lukewarm. Maybe they will play with it later. Got a few more but they are not getting them all at once.
What are your dogs fave toys?

most recently this adorable little alligator plush (the only plush he's not destroyed in under 30 seconds) it's super small and round stuffed with a dog tennis ball (i think) and is super well made...I just wish I knew who made it XD
He also likes this "dogzilla" rubber bone that he doesn't chew but instead throws around the room because it bounces

I have little dogs so I'm allowed a few more liberties on toys. My dogs favorite and I'd probably use it on a larger breed puppy are a crazy critter. It's a fleece tug that looks like a fox or a raccoon, it's got squeakers on both ends and it functions as a rag when you shake them. They're pretty tough but certainly not indestructible.

Romp N Roll - the ball is made of very nice porous material that is soft and chewy but does not get holes and tears and is very light. Makes crazy fun. Orbee-Tuff Cosmos Wow! Squishy and bouncy and minty, does not get holes or tears. The texture is really amazing. Nothing like the hard plastics often found in dog toys. Made in the US, I think. Hol-ee Roller It's a ball, a tug and a puzzle (one inside the other). Orbo Bounces unpredictably, fun shape - easy to carry and easy to out. TUGS!!! Bite rag A must have. Especially with adult dogs who never played tug before. Nice chewy thick leather, much better than chamois for adults.
We do not leave any of these toys laying around. They are not indestructible.

I also have a small dog, a Toy Fox Terrier who thinks she's at least the size of a German Shepherd. Gracie's favorite toys are stuffed animals, especially her Mickey Mouse, Leopard and pink lion; her interactive hide-a squirrel, any ball, and tugs (especially the bungee dog she chose for herself at PetCo.
More success, some of the dogs are playing with the squeaky toys. Bigger is not always better, there is one only about five inches long that looks like a plush baby bottle that they like.

My Dobe loves Kongs, but they are kind of expensive and only last like 35-40 minutes.
She also loves Tugs and balls on any kind of rope.
I really cant let her chew on anything. I have never found anything she could not destroy in a afternoon.
My Mixed puppy likes anything that is full of stuffing that he can chew on for his teeth. I think he also knows there is stuffing inside and he likes to get to that too.
