I think I found my conflict issues after witnessing this last night. My in laws came over. He gets her crazy excited then he was telling her to down( wanting her to sit) and then he kept saying hold(for the stay) I use none of these commands finally I said something which didnt go over well. As in they dont care. I cant wait for the crates to get here. I will crate them apon arrival on anyone.
The question I had was. When my new dog gets here, and I crate him everytime someone comes over, this will not cause conflict towards socializing or anything will it. I will be taking him to many different places and expeienceing many different things. I wasnt for sure if this practise would cause any problems in the log run.
Don't know the relationship you have with the inlaws but when I wanted to duck out of something I'd toss a dog and a kid in the van and it was "See you in awhile...gotta train the dog!"

The problems would be if you didn't crate him in situations where you are unable to control the interaction.
JMO.
It's not funny at all to me if someone teases, tries to command, or in any way interacts with my dog against my wishes. When it's someone you can't control (or can't control yet), my vote is absolutely to remove the dog. And of course you would never allow anyone to tease or get in the crated dog's face.
Its not fair to her or me. They think this whole thing is a joke.
Thats a real shame Jeremy - you are trying to do right by your dog and they should be supportive of you.
There are tons of ways to socialize your new pup without interfearing but probably loving and well meaning inlaws... I've said it before... we can pick our noses, we can pick our seats, but we can't pick our families. (Well, technically you could since you married their daughter, but you get my drift.)
