I am a little confused on how to proceed with some ground work with Jack (our JRT). Jack very clearly sees me as his pack leader, however with my husband it's quite a different story. What is the best way to establish proper pack structure so that he sees my husband as the next one down in rank ? When I am asleep and my husband tries to touch me the dog snarls at him. We have started crating him at night. I go out of town for 2 weeks every month and we need to establish my husband as a pack leader as well. My husband has issues with putting Jack in his crate (growls when he tries to shut the door)and getting him off the couch when he sneaks up there. My husband is a "push over". Please help us in this situation. I am established as a pack leader but how to we establish my husband as a pack leader as well.
My husband feeds Jack (in his crate), walks him regularly, and has been trying to work on some basic OB with him, but without the proper pack structure is the OB training going to have any effect ? If he doesn't see my husband as a pack leader also, then is Jack not just doing the OB for the food ? (No respect, just wants the treats)
And in feeding the dog. He should be feeding the dog but working with obedience in the process... Also would help for your husband to feed him in the kennel. The human guy has to step up and not let the little canine guy tell him whose boss... jmho.
posted while you were posting. All dogs provide behaviors for the benefits or lack of correction.
Jack is still in the learning phase, not corrections, which is why establishing the pack structure properly is the key right now no ? My husband has already been bit trying to "step up" and assert his rank. Do we need to take Jack all the way back to the beginning ? (Meaning, crate, eat, walk - nothing else)

Well unless you don't like your husband I would say yes.
Corina,
do you have the Pack Structure DVD? Your husband should watch it. Mine didn't want to hear about any of Leerburg until he saw the video. Now he is a happy convert.
ok. We have gone back to Step one...We are acting like we just got him. He is in the crate except for walks and bathroom. He is really very awesome in the crate all he does is watch us and sleep, he does not whine bark or anything....Just watches us. (We both feel extremely guilty but we know we have to do this so we can have a happy home life) I would like to know thoughts on how long we should do this, I mean how long until we can have him in house on leash.
I know I have been making a lot of posts but I am just trying to get things right for Jack, we love him and want him to be a part of our family for the rest of him life.

If he's being awesome in the crate and you get a couple days with zero issues I'd go ahead and start tethering the dog to your husband since he's the one he has the most issues with.
ok so starting Wednesday we could start tethering him to my husband. Like I said no issues whatsoever in the crate. Wait...There is a bit of yelping when we go outside and the people in the unit upstairs go into their door...Does that count? When we are inside and wandering about the place he is great.
