For many years, I dreamed of joining the PD with a goal of eventually getting a K9 as a partner. Finally, I realized that I might not be able to restrain myself if anyone messed with my dog. Sigh...now I just read about them every chance I get, and continue my adoration of these amazing creatures.
Love this quote:
Quote:
Both men described Kilo as "grumpy," but that's the preferred attitude of a police dog, Miller said.
Thanks for the link!!
A dog has alot of friends because he wags his tail instead of his mouth.
Chris, this is a great story and I never tire of hearing about
K9's and their handlers.
I have such an amazing respect and adoration as well, not only for the amazing dogs but for the tremendous bond created between the dog and the handler.
When I lived in Minnesota, each year at State Fair time, I would go just to see the Police K9 unit do their show for the audience. Each year held the same fascination for me, no matter how many times I had seen the same thing, I loved it all the more. I will forever be in awe of these wonderful dogs as well as the police officers who go to work to keep people safe from harm each and every day.
I also took a Citizen's academy type course which did a 12 week overview of the what the police do each and every day.
What pulled me in was wanting to see what the K9 handlers did, but the whole class was really amazing.
For those of you who have interest in just seeing what the police do, it is completely worth the time.(3 hours a week for 12 weeks)Check out your local police station to see if they have a citizens academy, it will blow your mind!
It gave me a whole new perspective on what they do every day and a whole lot of respect and appreciation for them.
My nephew is about to become a LEO, this winter he will graduate.
I am always suggesting to him to one day try and become a K9 handler..... I can't help it, I just love GSD's so much.
Of course what ever he ends up doing I will be proud of him, but it can't hurt to put the idea out there.
Yeah yeah, good ending all the way around. It's only too bad the bright boy didn't have the nerve to do the job himself and save anyone from any grief at all.
Yeah this is a good idea,
first I'll out run the police, if that don't work I'll hide from the dog and if the dog finds me I'll shoot the dog (nah nobody will hear it), and if I'm surrounded by armed officers in protective equipment I'll just shoot my way outta there.
Good riddance, I only hope he didn't propagate any offspring.
Happier hunting from now on Kilo. Good to hear you're back on the streets.

I have always been facinated with the work of police K9's, and I am very happy he is able to return to duty. A happy ending in all aspects!
