I am feeling just real good, so Chico did not want the beef bone I gave him with meat at this time, so I decided to put him up until a later time. My joyous mode decided to take the pron collar off and leave him with the flat collar alone.
Once he saw the pron collar off, he decided that place, was not a command, and mouthing was acceptable, and old tricks like laying down with paws up was a defense. oh no serie, not in this Haus.
So I kindly put on the flat collar that had slip, and proceeded to the prong. Day and night as far as behavior, Much work to do. Was not a problem, just decided to share with you trainers out there. So what say you? Dan

Dan, what it sounds like to me is that your pup is becoming "collar wise". Meaning basically that he knows when a certain collar is on that a certain behaviour is expected, same as when you take it off. I would suggest rotating flat, prong, and whatever other collars you may have throughout the day, and giving corrections with each individual collar (while just one or multiple collars are on).
To help train the dog to realize that he must obey all the collars, regardless of which is on, I'd put on prong and flat (if you have an E collar, use that as well) and a long line and work with corrections on the prong and then on the flat (if you have an e collar on as well, use that as well). Soon enough, you pup will realize that no matter what collar is on that he is to know exactly what behaviour you want from him.
What I just described is on one of the training DVD's, the E Collar training DVD if I'm correct.

Hey guys, this is only a 6 month old puppy Dan is talking about. Sounds like a typical mouthy puppy. He is just a pup being a pup....testing the boundries.
I personally, would not be bring out all the heavy 'artilary' on such a young pup. I personally, would not be correcting such a young pup with prong collars or e-collars. I would be stepping up the training & re-eforcing the positive. If you are using a prong etc for corrections at 6 months old...what are you planning on moving on to when he is bigger & stronger & decides to test you? JMO
As far as being collar wise...Even the dumbest of dogs will eventually get it figured out.

Dan, I wasn't saying that Chico is dumb...just stating that smart dogs will figure it out pretty fast ( & he has already) & even dumb dogs figure it out eventually.

Irene. You are a hundred correct in your statement, the collar should not matter, it is just a mater of bond and respect, I am at a baffle here. we have very good relationship, I think it is mostly play, and trying to see how far he can go. One thing all thees shenanigans has giving me is patience and a sense of humor.
As for this morning on the walk, excellent, and other things he has done no complaint. He is six months and still got plenty puppy with him. I will keep working with him and we all will be proud of him. Thanks Irene. Dan

Anne. my thoughts exactly, did not want to use any compulsion at this time, even the prong collar is just use to keep him in place on the walk, never had to use more than a level one if that, with a sound of my mouth if he was getting ahead of me. no pulling, wait for me to make his next move, even to drink water which is around the corner on my ramp. I will say pretty good for a dog. Most dog will be gone and bug you. Ann I am with your school of though, we are just beginning this process. Anne, Thanks very much, Dan

Reply to both Betty, and Anne, Yes, I do believed he is a smart Dog. You should see him in the puppy ring, I have even gotten offer to sell him, but , no way Jose. either way, all of us, march to a different drummer. And his march is just fine. Dan
