Yesterday, as I was walking and jogging Chico in my power chair, on our evening one miler, on our way back home, here come this dog, same size as Chico, maybe somewhat older, from across the street. Chico was alert several seconds before I realize a dog was there and loose, this dog decided to do the wrong thing in my ayes, and charge at us. We are one, and I am learning this more as circumstances appears, anyway, this dog comes charging, My adrenalin start to fully flow, so I charge, the best defense is an offense sometimes. this dog was still coming like he has done this before, so without realizing I was crossing the grass , and in the middle of the street, It was two against one, while Chico sold woof ticket, I ram that dog with my scooter, got off as he was still coming to bite my dog so I spare head him with my walking stick, then hit him over the head or body, before the owner came and got him, Are you are right? Ask the owner, no response from me. He took the dog two houses down, and came back, now I realize, I am in the middle of the two way lane, ready to fight this dog, haven' felt those war calls in my boots (Sneakers) in such a long time. On my own debrief, I realize I am lacking equipment soon to come. and I was ready to defend my dog against all intruders, down and dirty. Sorry if I offended anyone, I was following the leash law. If they are not to me they are fair game. I am the ALPHA. Dan

Dan: you might want to invest in a small canister pepper spray. I have one and used it when a large dog charged my shepherd Blesk (he is our company explosive detector and generates income for our company/us). I got the spray with orange dye mixed and that dog went howling home with an orange face. The spray canister is $12 at a police supply store (probably cheaper elsewhere). Never did see the dog's owner, but I'm sure he got the message.

It was two against one, while Chico sold woof ticket,
Sounds like you did great Dan. PLEASE be careful, and I agree that a can of pepper spray or wasp spray might be a good idea... wouldn't want you and that scooter intersecting with a car while your adrenalin is pumpin'!

Dan, you did what had tobe done. While pepper spray might be a good idea, the main problem with any spray is that it could end up in your or your dog's eyes if the wind happens to be in or shift into the "wrong" direction. But, what about a small cattle prod or stun baton. the noise of the latter is generally enough to scare off most dogs without actually having to stun the dog. Of course you'd have to desensitize Chico to the noise.

Richard, something so simple, never thought of it, just the other day I spoke about bear spray for my wife, but did not think about a use for us meaning the dog and myself. Good Richard, thanks. Dan
