I have a two year old Dtch Shepherd female that has great drive and looks awesome when I work her at home. When I take her away from home she shuts down and looks like a dog that has been abused. I got her when she was seven months old so I don't know what she was like before that. Has anyone else dealt with this. I just don't know if i will ever get her right when she is traveling with me.
Larry, Back in March you posted that you were having issues with her drive going down when the ecollar was on. You were given some ideas on how to train, and it sounded likes things were improving.
What came out of all that? Are you still using the ecollar during training in the same manner you were at that time? Are you still working her with the sleeve as soon as you get somewhere away from home?

Larry, how do you describe high drive at home? It seems everyone defines high drive a bit differently.
My experience is that dogs are going to look the best in my back yard when no one can see them.....LOL I have the added disadvantage of my primary training field being on my property so I have to make an effort to train off property at different fields.
I would keep it light and fun for the dog. Lots of quick success with an even quicker reward. Build up confidence and make everything happy. Short, short sessions, ending on a high note.
Why would her history prior to you gaining ownership make a difference? I rescued a 7 month old Mali that was kept in a garage its' whole life. He had no issue away from home besides wanting to kill anything and everything. It was primarily a lack of socialization and a few months worth of work fixed that. When I first got him he wanted to attack the neighbors...later on he wanted to be petted by them or was neutral to strangers.
I don't know your history with this dog but it sounds like she is a bit thin nerved or woefully unsocialized. They can react one of two ways if not socialized....aggression, or fear. Mine was aggression, yours appears to be fear.
So, it's either nerves or not enough socialization with the outside world. Only time will tell which one it is. Unless of course, you messed her up with an ecollar.
