this is Teemo he is 14 or 15 weeks old. He was born June 2, 2010. Teemo came from a home that had about 15 dogs, he is paper trained but not house trained. He is well socialized with dogs but not people so much. He is cuddly and affectionate. I will keep u updated.
He is an absolute cutie pie. Do your best in getting him house trained and not just paper trained - you don't want a dog thinking it is okay to eliminate INSIDE the house. Do you need any guidance on this? Do you have a crate?
We do have a crate, he is not crate trained as of yet, working on that. We do not think he was actually let outside before we got him, he did not even know how to play. Yesterday he actually started playing though, my husband was throwing balls for the GSD upstairs and Teemo thought it would be fun to chase him barking. First time we heard his voice. Luger (the GSD) likes Teemo and is careful with him so we are good on that score.
The house training will take a bit but we really like Teemo and he is young enough to take to all training well.
ANY advice on potty training is welcome, pfft ANY advice peroid is welcome.
The crate and teathering will be your friends while housebreaking the pup. If the pup isn't crated, he is teathered to you so that you can keep a close eye on him and observe his "signals" letting you know he is about to pee. Pups generally need to go potty as soon as they get up in the AM, before and after play, and shortly after meals, and before they are crated for the PM. Ideally, you are "pro-active" in the process and take the pup outside every few hours (2 or 3) to give them the opportunity to do it correctly and then praise like crazy, have a party, etc...
If your little guy was taught it is okay to potty in the house prior to coming to live with you (what are people thinking?? jmho) you have to "undo" that training and it might take a bit longer. However, just go about it with attitude that it is a new day and this is how WE are doing it from now on. Praising him for doing it correctly, special treats, play etc... when he goes outside will really reinforce THIS is how you want it done. No punishment, corrections, etc... for going inside - first, it is what he has been taught, and secondly, from this day forward if it happens inside it is because one of the humans in charge wasn't watching the pup.
I hope this helps and perhaps some of the real "puppy people" will chime in too.
thanks so much, he has already gone (both) outside and we praise the hell out of him. He will be making a trip to BC with me next weekend, so we are hoping we can get him going outside full time by then.
