Tomorrow is 9/11.
It is a day that most of us Americans will never forget. There have been few days in my life that will be etched in my memory forever. The morning of 9/11/01 is one of them.
I was working in a group home for teen girls and had just gotten them on the bus to school and turned on the TV. The Towers had smoke coming from them, and then the unimaginable happened. Those two giant buildings fell down like they were made of cards. I am not ashamed to admit that I cried. I was far from home, no Paul and no dogs were with me. I cried for the senseless loss.
Paul and I were scheduled to go on vacation on the 13th. We were driving out to Yellowstone. We debated going or not.. the whole country was in turmoil, maybe we should stay home. But then I thought, NO, then the Bastards win. I WILL NOT be afraid to travel in my OWN COUNTRY!!!! So we took off as we had planned.
Along the way, we drove though small towns draped in flags, and saw a sky empty of airplanes and vapor trails. We stopped at Mt. Rushmore, and a Russian lady I had never met gave me a hug and told me that she said many prayers for the people in the Towers and for all Americans. We cried together in front of that monument to freedom.
It's been 9 years. I still shed tears when I see the images of the Towers, the searchers, and the memorials to the lost. I am not ashamed.
Take a moment tomorrow to remember those that were lost so needlessly. Take a moment to remember those that have fought and are still fighting for our freedom. Take a moment from your busy lives, and remember those that were taken from theirs.
I will ... Never Forget.

Agreed, people need to remember our Country's terrible loss and to remember the sacrifices of those that fight to keep us safe and free.

Not being sarcastic, but I have never watched as much TV as I did that day. I couldn't take my eyes off it.
I was pissed, sad, and proud all at the same time.

Oh I'll never forget Kelly. I distinctly remember calling my husband after news of the Pentagon being hit and crying "OUR COUNTRY IS UNDER ATTACK!!". It was simply beyond my comprehension.
May all those souls we lost that day and the people who worked so hard in hopes of rescuing someone instead of just recovering someone, be at peace.

Me too, Michael. JFK, RFK, MLK, Katrina .... For some of those, I know you were not even born ....
Each had me (and everyone) glued to the TV in horror and shock, but 9/11 was so much worse -- I imagine that the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941 would have claimed the same kind of horrified riveted attention if there had been television coverage.
Kelly and Will and Michael, thank you; you are so right to remind us to think of those who have fought and are still fighting for our freedom, and the families of those whose futures were stolen from them.
It will be a day of reflection, sadness -- and gratitude.

I live in Canada, but my Mom is from New York, both my first cousins work right down there, and their best friend died that day. We actually had the TV on at work after the first tower was hit. I so vividly remember watching the live footage of the first tower smoking, as the second plane flew onto the screen, and thinking WTF... and then it hit the second tower.

We will never forget that day......our sorrow goes out for the lives taken, our gratitude goes out to the heroes, and our respect and love goes out to the men and women still fighting for our freedom.
