If there is anyone out there who still doubts the benefits of Marker Training...
We've been struggling with Falcon since Tuesday afternoon attempting to administer his eye ointment twice daily. It hasn't been pretty. In the AM it has been rushed due to husband's need to get out the door to work and to be honest, I have simply not devoted as much time into marker training this as I should have. Tonight I simply said we are going to work on this and we did...
I cut up salami and swiss cheese. Doug was on the floor in front of Falcon and I sat on the floor next to him. I touched Falcon's face - YES - Doug treated. I touched Falcon's eys - YES Doug treated. Etc..
In five minutes we made FAR more progress that we've made since Tuesday trying to coerce and sit on the dog. The medication was administered more effectively than we've been able to manage over the past four days.
Amazing method of training. By Monday I hope to be be applying the medication all by myself like a big girl.
I have to say, my husband has "the touch" for things like this. He takes the dogs and just does it. Cleaning ears, eye drops, medications, ointments, etc. etc. no problem at all. If I try.....FORGET IT! It will be a fight. So I guess I could do market training. Actually I should. It has just been soooo much easier having him do it. Sigh.

I wish I would have known about marker training for the last dog we had... It was a pain to do the nails, look at teeth, and ears. Thankfully I don't have to "train" it with Zuki Never seen a dog so trusting with the nails or other things... Just hope I never give her a reason not to trust :P
