Hi Family, hope all is well. Is this a crazy idea? Giving POP CORN just as a reward, I am going back to some basic commands to re-enforce. Someone had mention that to me and it has stuck, so now I am ready to give it a novelty try out. What say you? Just a pop here and there. Always keeping in mind is just a treat reward. Dan

With a zillion choices, why choose corn (in any form)?

If he's like mine Dan, he's going to play around with it rather then just eat it and there goes his attention.

Plain old baked or boiled chicken is my guys FAVORITE! Turns out to be cheaper then conventional treats as well, when you chop it up into itty bitty pieces. I can't find yummy treats for $0.99 a pound, or less!

That is SO CHEAP, even on the priciest boneless skinless breasts, because of the M&M size rewards that are usually sufficient.
I have learned that there are situations (and occasional individual dogs) when you want a slightly bigger item ... I work with one who doesn't even register my usual pea-size rewards, so his are thin strips of something (anything, from cooked meat to a sheet of cooked egg white, slivered up). Then he at least notices that something got vacuumed up and swallowed.
But 90% of the time, I really like a mixed bag of the top row here http://leerburg.com/treat.htm (plus the salmon ones on the bottom right) with leftovers diced and added, and real bits of meat and/or cheese diced and added.
Imagination is good (and cheap), too: strips of leftover skin from cooked salmon; bits of cooked broccoli are manna from heaven to one of mine; the "heel" of a deli cold cut item, diced small ..... A baggy in the freezer can have all these things tossed in and ready to add to your Zuke's (or whatever) to make a great slot-machine mix.

Good to know Steve, the purpose was as I stated to reinforce his sit and downs etc. Cause once he is in protection mode, my commands does not get to him. That has to change, I know we are just beginning, but a head start would not be bad. Dan

Kelly, I'm glad that you have found: One a good price, and two your dog loves it. I feed raw. So I gave mine some cut up semi frozen flan steak. It also did the trick. Dan

I chop a hot dog into tiny cubes. He'll do anything for hot dog. If I give Sutter corn in any form, he gets very loose bowls and terrible gas. He also loves sweet potato cubes (cooked) and pumpkin (also cooked).
