HEY GANG I HAVE A 5 MONTH OLD MALE AND A 1.5 YEAR OLD FEMALE. THE MINUTE I WALK IN THE PICTURE THEY GROWL AND BARK TRYING TO GET TO ONE ANOTHER. I TRIED MUZZLING THE OLDER FEMALE AND PUT THEM TOGETHER DOESNT WORK. IF I LEAVE THEY CALM DOWN AND ALL IS WELL. Do I need to get physical with them?
Your dogs are dictating there own rules and disregarding you as the authoritive figure, ALPHA etc. They "claim" you and your presence and thus the behavior. I would ensure that the dogs are worked in basic obedience to assist in forming your "hierarchy" and assuring that you are the one who dictates what behavior is acceptable or not as well as that the dog does not have a claim on you but rather sees you as the Alpha and through appropriate training, conditioning etc. finds its place in the hierarchy. Get the dogs a job to do! Achieving this status may include numerous minor "actions" which accumulative assist in getting more control over your dogs. In your case, with opposite sexes and the age difference, this shouldn't be to difficult.
