I can see the value of buying a titled dog for a breeding program, but otherwise I think the fun of having a dog is training and doing the work yourself.
Hello. I didn't buy, but acquired/adopted a dog x2 that were started in Schutzhund. Although I am taking the one currently and soon to re-start the 2nd and not necessarily going for titles myself as they are my "pets" and we do for fun.
I can say this about having someone else have trained/titled there can be obstacles and re-dos due to how they were trained which is very time consuming and requires some patience. It would more dependent on the style that the person used I suppose, just something to consider.
It takes TONS more time to RE-teach something than to teach it the first time. So take this into consideration when you look at dogs that were titled by someone that you don't know & or may have taught things way different then the way you do or know.
Just some food for thought.
BTW....how the heck are ya, Edmond? Hope all is well.

These posts from Kristel and Anne and Tracy and Aimee --- I had never thought much about this. They make perfect sense!

I imported a titled dog and kept training her. I learned a lot about schutzhund from her. At least the dog knew what to do. <grin>
And I did get one litter from her.
All being said and done I would probably import a titled dog again under the right circumstances. But as a breeder I was breeding her blind. You learn a lot about your dogs strengths and weaknesses by training them.
