At night my dogs sleep on their beds in our bedroom. They each have these very large pillow type dog beds. My dogs are crated when we are at work or need them to be out of the way for any reason but at night they sleep in their beds.
Jeter will use both front paws to scratch (just like if he was digging in the back yard) at his bed. other times he will use his front legs to pull his bed to the other side of the room. he manages to work his way around the furniture and put it in whatever spot he likes for the night.
I was just wondering what the reason for this is. Sometimes he is content to just lay down in the place where we keep the beds and go to sleep for the night and other times he makes a big deal out of moving this very large and heavy bed around the room for 10 minutes until its in whatever spot he likes for the night.
That's kind of cute. I think they all just kind of have their own idiosyncrasies around sleeping habits.
My current dog sort of throws himself anywhere on his bed and doesn't move all night, but I've had some 'nesters' and some 'draggers' too.
I've had dogs that would just keep digging and pounding the centre of the bed until there was a deep dip in it, and then they'd curl up in a ball in the dip. Some would have to spin a ridiculous number of times before they would finally lay down. Sometimes they would rearrange the placement first, dragging the bed all over the place, and THEN do their digging or spinning ritual.
I love that! Next time I rearrange the furniture can I borrow him?!*
* seriously though, if he gets a little too carried away and disturbs the group peace of the other dogs, he will probably be quite amenable to a gentle reminder to redecorate in the morning.
