When I was a little girl, German Shepherds were my favorite breed. I had two sets of aunts and uncles who had one, and I vowed that someday I would own one of those beautiful dogs. Well, when I grew up and was in a position to have a dog of my own, all the German Shepherds I saw at the shows and trials had horrible roached backs, over-angulated hind legs, and moved like they were crippled. I have since learned that there is a difference between show and working lines, American and European, etc., so I know it is still possible to find a nice GSD.
Your Ria is gorgeous and fits the picture I've had in my mind since I was a kid of what I would like my GSD to look like.
Thank you so much everyone for the welcome and the compliments.
Cheri, your response kind of got to me. That's exactly how it was for me. I grew up hearing stories of my Dad's GSDs. From the puppy he found when he was 10, to the GSD pup he got from a pound that was scared of it's own shadow.
I always dreamed of having a noble, beautiful German Shepherd of my own. Then when it finally became possible, I was so overwhelmed by the wealth of information and the vast differences in what I thought was one breed!
But it was all worth it. Ria is everything I could have wanted in a dog. It's more a matter of me being everything she could ask for in a human. I'm 19, and she's my first dog that's been actively mine to train and handle and boy! What a ride!
But like I said, definitely worth it.
Good luck Cheri! I hope you find your GSD and become just as happy as I am with mine.
