I was wondering if a stun gun would cause permanent damage to a dog. I was thinking that this might be better than using pepper spray on a aggressive dog or even beating the dog off from a attack with a walking stick. just a thought.
I guess there is reason why they call you ragewalker. We had a nice thread on this a couple weeks ago. http://www.leerburg.com/ubb//ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=000021 I bought the dazer on Jerry's recomendation. I'm still waiting to use it on another dog. I can tell you this my dog hates it. Does't even want to see it in my hand. I'll keep you guys posted on how effective it is.
Ragewalker is actually a nickname i picked up during my misspent youth I saw the thread on the Dazer and was wondering if that would make the dog your walking become more leary of other dogs (i.e. the dog think here comes a dog I do not know and I am gonna get a ultrasound correction) And If you got a soft dog is the dog not going to want to go on a walk if you have a Dazer with you. You said yourself your dog does not like to see it in your hand.
Just my thoughts on this....
Good question. I look at it this way. I really never had any bad incidence with other dogs. I hope to never use it, but just in case I have it. If it is effective no harm no foul. In other words keep a new battery in there and only use when necessary, sort of like have a handgun. As far as having the dog conditioned to it. I had a similar product by a different company that I used to keep the pup of the furniture. After 3 days she ignored it. The dazer appears to be more powerful.
My Mal pup got attacked by an off leash piece of shit the other night. A stun gun on a stick would have been more humane than stomping this dog into pulp while it's owner watched. Of course I have since changed my walking routine, but the whole way home I imagined different weapons to carry on my next walk. I thought a walking stick with a 16 penny finish nail sticking out of the bottom of it, a hunting knife in a sheath for gutting strays, all that sick stuff you think about when violence invades your space and threatens your loved ones.
I know alot of working dog people and they NEVER let their dogs stray or get away. We just put way to much time into these animals to let them get nailed by a car. I know that it happens but it's rare with working dogs. IMHO
What would be the best way to desensitize a dog to something like a Dazer? I can imagine maybe setting it up with it turned on then walking the dog towards it with treats and praise but then I'm thinking that if it is that loud to a dog is it going to harm his hearing?(you know its gotta be loud if it needs fresh batteries)
Still curious about the effect of a stun gun on a dog though....
Roger you can't hear it only the dog can. Its not as bad as you are believing it to be. Its the size of a gargae door remote, comes with a belt clip. I bought it to try if I didn't like it has 30 day moeny back guarantee. Postage was included with the 32 dollar order. Buy it, try it and see for yourself. I'm keeping mine and will keep you guys posted.
By stun gun do you mean Tazer? The only "stun guns" I am familiar with are the Star Trek phazer and the Tazer. Think about how this would look, you and your dog are accosted, wrongfully, by an off leash piece of excrement. You draw your weapon, because that is what it is, aim and fire your your one shot. It is as loud as a .22 and to reload in a hurry is virtualy impossible. The weapon you drew looks, and sounds like a conventional handgun. What are the police going to see when they arrive, because you know they will. They will get a call from an uninvolved third party relating to a "man with a gun". This has gone from an inconvenient molestation to a 911 call involving weapons, can you see the progression? Stick with OC or Jerry's recommendation.

Sorry about the misuse of terminaolgy. What I'm talking about is also called a stun baton. Any thoughts on this would be greatfull and I agree totally about the Taser being a bad idea. The idea of digging those harpoons out of a dog is not pleasant.
Thanks again for your replies.
