I found a breeder that I feel in love with in Canada. She specializes in solid black gsds and I wonder how to tell if the father and mother comes from a working line. I read on the website and watched videos that a working dog isn't really trained its something that is in the genes. I want to get into a school for training and possibly start breeding and I want to have a working line to raise and train and so on. So I was wonderng if anyone could help me out or pass on information.
The drive and structure to do the work is genetic. The ability or skill to do the work is trained. The pedigree should tell you what lines they are. Normaly working line breeders don't breed for a paticular color.
I don't know if just specializes in the color but haven't seen a breeder yet that has so many solid black gsds. Here is her website http://www.boomlakesgermanshepherds.com/
Looks like West German and American showlines if I'm not mistaken.
eta. The black/red dogs are almost ALWAYS German showlines. The Vs and VAs give it away as well. Ozzy's pedigree isn't that obvious to some I think but the CH in front of the names and the lack of titles tell a lot. There is also no information on the dogs being worked or going to working homes, which is also a big sign of showlines.

Edit reason: less vague info
Joseph, What little I know about working line breeders - they don't concentrate on color. It isn't important to them (nor to the dog's health). They breed for what is best about the dog and are happy with what ever spits out. I'm still in the "learning" stage about working line dogs but absolutely encourage you to only purchase only from a working line. Will you go to Florida for a dog?
