This happened during training today, it made my day and possibly my week.....
So today I took another day off from the formal OB and again I brought my little speakers out with my ipod and Ryuk and I were moving around to the some pretty instrumental music working on oh-so-useful commands like "spin" "weave" and "march" as well as the more challenging (and not yet 100% learned) "speak from a distance" command while staying put. We're up to about 15 feet away for this trick and he hasn't quite gotten it without the hand signal yet. This resulted in me looking like an idiot waving my hand around and giving the "speak" hand signal While my dog bounces on the spot barking.
An old woman I have never seen in my life comes running out of the apartment building closest to us and runs up to where Ryuk and I are training. I immediately called him over (my default for approaching humans) and put him in "center" between my legs and the woman freezes.
I ask if she's okay and she points a shaking hand at my dog and says in very broken English "you've finished the words, you're in control now?"...cue my first confused expression. She then claps her hands together and says "controlling the spirit?" *insert more very confused looks from me*. She then moves her hands in the cue I used to make my dog spin around and asks me to do it. At this point, what the heck. I have Ryuk do a few spins and she claps and walks away nodding her head smiling without another word
A few minutes later a younger woman comes out of the house and walks over....
apparently her grandmother had been watching us out the window. This old lady had seen my dog with "broken chains on his neck" (his prong collar and short leash wrapped around to obey the leash rule) "bark viciously" at me from 15 ft away while I said some words and waved my hands. The dog then stopped barking and when I spun my hands around, spun around. When I put my hand to the ground, layed down. When I pointed to my legs weaved in and out of them.....she interpreted this as "the dog was a demon/possessed by a demon, the witch lady waved her hands and said an incantation and brainwashed the dog who then did strange things like spin on command and go where pointed to"
