Excited Newbie here, getting my 1st GSD pup this weekend and after watching 8 weeks to 8 months I see the benefits to the exercise pen. Just wondering if anybody has had experience with the "soft" pens, the seem available in same sizes as the ex-pen favored at this site? The question is will a quality one hold up? Thanks !

I have used them for my little guys. I wouldn't imagine using one with a busy larger puppy in a chewing phase and dealing with that separation anxiety screaming phase.
My Rott pups would DESTROY one in short order. Once they get to about 10 - 12 weeks they become destructive little devils. If it is not the teeth, it will be the claws.
By the time they are old enough to not be destructive, you almost won't need one anymore.

I would definitely not get a soft one, not if your pup is going to be anything like mine! He does have a good time in there (it's fully loaded with toys, bully stick, etc., and he can see me from where it is), but he does jump up on the sides. This is a problem we are working on, but with a cloth one, I can only imagine what his little sharp teeth and nails would have done to it by now...
