I have a female who gets her hair up around other dogs sometimes. I would not say that she is dog agressive. I have socialized her by taking her to the sch field and she always did fine there. But if we are at home or in the car and she sees a dog, her hair will shoot up and she will bark a deep bark. I always thought that this behavior was typically with males trying to make themselves look badass! Is this typicall of females to show this behavior? What does it say about the dog?
How old is this dog? I have seen pups that do this also. Hair stands up real quick. Is this signs of weak nerves? As I dont think it would be defensive for a young pup?
my pup is a year old. I really doubt that it is weak nerves with my pup. But I do think that she might have been attacked by another dog once. I never saw it happen but that does not mean that it didnt, because she always did fine at the sch field. She only gets like this around other dogs. She just started it about 3 or 4 mos. ago. Any opinions?
My guess would be it is territorial/defense as she is starting to come into adulthood and you say she does this in the car or at home - "Attention this is my turf"
Yeah, that is what her behavior kind of says about her, but is it bad for dogs to portray this kind of behavior, Or is it typicall and I should just deal with it?
Sounds like pretty normal dog behaviour to me but I don't have any experience with GSD or protection breeds. As long as she doesn't carry it to extremes and will knock it off when told to
I wouldn't worry too much but it sounds normal.
When she does this she is nervous. Not necessarily a "bag of nerves" or something to lose tremendous amounts of sleep over(of course depending on what your intentions are for her)....just nervous.
