HELP!!!! I have approached Ed with this question before, and have done the ideas he's given them. And I must admit, they've worked and were absolutely right!!! (A brief background) My 3 yr old, intact male GSD was attacked a few years ago by some very unrulely, untrained pit mixes who actually jumped my fence where my children were playing, trapped them inside my truck, and were trying to get to them. My GSD jumped out a 2nd story window, to the top of the carport, then the ground where the dog fight insued. There was the start of our problems. It got to the point that he would attack any dog before they had the chance to attack him. We have since had him in extensive training, and moved. He's doing absolutely wonderful, EXCEPT for the dog next door. If we are out walking, he will ignore all over dogs, won't even look at them. The owners next door are terrified of Onyx because... well to put it in their words, they hate GSD's because they are big vicious dogs. They continue to let their dog come up into our front yard and urinate, despite my pleas. (I have survalience cameras on the inside and outside of my home, taped this act, and the Dog Warden won't do anything about it) I'm trying everything in my power to be a responsible dog owner, keeping my dog on a leash, training, putting up a fence in the back yard, etc. And onyx has NO problem with the dog on the other side of us, or the one across the street. Could it be that Onyx is feeding on the fear of the other owners against him? And should I continue to try and convience these people that they are only feeding this problem? I am, unfortunately, unable to sell my home right now without taking a substantial loss, and AM NOT willing to get rid of my dog because of their ignorance and stupidity. What else can I do? Please help!!!

Christine,
Well done for doing such a good job on your dog!
I have a 6 yr old Gt DaneXNewfie who is dog agressive to any dog except GSD's. We took her on 3 years ago from her previous owners who lived next door to a GSD so she is O.K. with the breed. Any other dog - the red mist comes down. She weight over 120 obs and takes some holding.
She was also attacked by a doberman when she was very young and will now always get in first.
We can't fix the problem but where we live we can work around it by avoiding potential situations.
What sort of dog do these stupid neighbours have? If it's a small dog I would say to them that unless they keep him off your property your dog will probably hurt it badly or worse
What your dog is doing is natural behaviour as this other dog should not be loose on your dog's territory.
I'm from the U.K so I don't know the law situation where you are as far as stray dogs are concerned. It must be so annoying for you when you are doing everything correctly and these stupid people are spoiling all your good work.

if I'm reading it right, it sounds like your dog is just a good judge of character.

love your answer southpaw. in my state if you catch someones animal on your property you can pen them up and charge $ to get their animal back. it sounds to me like they are doing something to your dog when your gone. your family could always use there yard as a restroom.

Thank you all for your clever responses. I've had alot of time to think about this, and now know exactly what I must to. Unfortunately, they are always right with their dog when it's in my yard, so trapping him if out of the question, but putting electrical charges around my tree and bushes is perfectly legal!

i just thought of something. i use the glue traps for catching mice and my dogs have found them a couple of times.talk about a nasty sticky mess.i"m pretty sure its not toxic it says its not on the box. you can"t get it off the fur and it sticks to everything else it comes in contact with. i"m sure if they had to get the stuff off their dog once or twice they wouldn"t want him in your yard anymore. you could tell them you have a real bad rat problem. also ed says somewhereon this site about using real mouse traps to keep dogs out of places you don"t want them to go. so maybe you should look that up.

Oh WOW! They are there with their dog!
What @(^$#(&^()#$^)#!!!
I thought they were just too lazy to walk the dog and let it roam to your lawn.
Do you not have a fence?
It sounds like these people are doing it on purpose just to make you get rid of your dog.
Please tell us what kind of dog they have to help is with some ideas.
I think you should do MANY things to make sure
they stay off your lawn... I like both the electric charge idea and the rat-glue one too so far. You should do both! I am serious.
These people are petty idiots so no point in talking to them about it. Just do what you need to keep them away. Weirdos!
Do you have a friend with a pit-bull or big nasty rotweiller (of the opposite sex of your dog) to come and visit Onyx to play?
This could scare them into thinking you got MORE MONSTERS and make them give up or at least be afraid to come over again?
Try to record the times of day their dog pees on your lawn. I may come in handy for future reference.
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
