I am looking to purchase a E-Collar for my 60lb Shepherd Mix. I have done some research and would like to know what others who have used these collars suggest. There are so many options and I want to make sure that I am making the right decision. As of now, I have narrowed my selection to the Dogtra 7000M, Dogtra 1900NCP or Tri-Tronics Sport Basic G3. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I have an 1702NCP(2 dog) (just an older version of the 1900) that I have had for 6 years. I have never had an issues with it. I have used it on multiple dogs & it is used daily while my dogs are off my property. My dogs go to the beach & into the water with them on as well as the woods, fields etc.
I have a VERY hard tempermented dog & used it also on softer dogs & I like the ability to use the constant, nick & vibrate & the ability to see the number of the stem & battery life. This way I can better set the stem level for each dog. I believe, if memory serves me, this will work for harder tempermented dogs (which is one of the reasons that I chose this one) & a 1/2 mile or more distance. Which I like, when I have had my dogs are out for a hike or out in big fields with me.
You may not need one that is for higher stem or range.
Can't speak for the other, as I have no experience with them.
I have both the 1900 and 2300. The 1900 was not enough for my GSD under distraction which is why we then purchased the 2300. Like Anne, we use it in water regularly and haven't had a single problem.
You can also purchased (seperately) direct form Dogtra ( don't know if LB carries them or not)different length contact points & a defuser contact. My dogs have very think neck hair & I prefer not to shave them at the contact spot, so I use a longer contact point. I have a number of differerent lengths, but have found that 1 inch ones work best for my dogs.
Often times, if the collar does not seem to be working or the stem level seems not high enough, contact can be the problem. It can be intermittent or non existant at times, if the points are not making proper contact. I have found that the difusser doesn't work for my dogs. But I know people who like it.
ETA....I don't know for sure that the 1900NCP is the same as the 1702NCP that I have. The 1702NCP was their top collar when I got it...but that was almost 7 years ago. I don't want to mislead you.

Absolutely! We weren't sure if it was us doing something wrong or collar issues, so we worked with a trainer in Richmond who helped us confirm it wasn't a contact issue - but a "dog issue". Trust me...the last thing we wanted to do was purchase another brand new collar...
Barbara, I posted that for general information for readers, not well versed in e-collar use & may be having problems & thinking it is a collar issue & it may be something as simple as changing contact point length.
