Upon moving into my new house, (in the country with acreage), I acquired a young stray pup...like super young. The vet says he's about 8 weeks. He was wondering alone and super thin. I was not really wanting another dog, but he went unclaimed and there had been no inquiries about adopting him. (I kept checking.) So, crazy as it is, I have an approximately thirteen month old Ollie and a baby Petey.
As strange as it sounds, I've never had a young pup. My dogs have all been rescues of some kind, and the youngest I've adopted is nine months. So this is new. It's going really well so far. He's smart and has had no accidents...yet. (I take him out CONSTANTLY.) I have had very little time with the dogs together...started out with the pup in a crate in the same room to see how Ollie reacted, but mostly they are out at different times. Petey loves the crate thank goodness. He's in and out all day long...play, sleep, play sleep. The few times they have been together, they've been on leash...Ollie with me and Petey with my better half. Other than their excitment, they seem to be doing well. Still, they wont be loose together for a very long time. It makes me nervous because the pup is so small. My vet says he's some kind of pit mix. I truly don't see it...looks like a mutt to me. (super cute!)
I have a question about feeding him. He is way too thin and doesn't seem to want to eat very much at a time. So I've been feeding him small amounts three times a day. I feed honest kitchen with a variety of added raw to Ollie, but am sticking with just the honest kitchen for the pup for now. Is this ok? He gets probably 1/4 cup three times a day and maybe a few small treats when he comes to me when called. He weighs about 3-4 lbs.
Staggering potty breaks, indoor time, feeding and training Ollie has me worn plum out!
