My 8 week old puppy has vomited four times in the last 24 hours...spread out. He's eating normally and has healthy log shaped BM's except one loose one last night. I have a vet appointment at 4:30 and have him at work with me today. He may be a little less active, but I might be over reacting too.
Some history: He was a stray, vet thinks about 8 weeks old. He was already very skinny, but seems even smaller today. I've had him since Wednesday, and have been feeding him Honest Kitchen with the tinyiest bit of raw chicken. No supplements yet. He will only eat about 1/4 cup three times a day.
Everything else with him seems fine. I know I'm taking him to vet in a few hours, but the poor thing acts like he's starving. I haven't given him anything but water thi morning so as to give his belly a rest and wait on the vet. Should I feed him a little? Is this common for pups? Could it be stress from the changes? He was just checked for worms.
I have no advice other than it sounds like you are doing all the right thing. If he isn't acting horribly lethargic, or having lots and lots of watery stool I would be ok waiting for the the vets office.
Did he have any vaccines when you took him in earlier this week?
If not I would absolutely not want to do any until you got him healthy and vigorous.
I think if I were in your situation I would hold food till he gets to the vet. They will probably inject him with an anti-nausea drug. After that, you should be good to try feeding again (in tiny amounts). Nothing strange about the vomit? Is it food? Undigested? Partially digested? Foamy?
If the vet thinks he's 8 weeks old then I'm assuming he was already checked once for health issues?
Good luck! Hope its just a simple case of tummy upset.
They found an intestinal parasite...I forget the name and it's not on the receipt. He said it makes it hard to move the food through his system. THey gave him a Banamine injection and a medicine for the parasite...and also meds for Ollie since it's contagious.
I fed him boiled down rice with a little chicken last night and he kept it down...then a little this morning. He seemed better already. He only weighs 5 lbs...and he has a large frame. He goes back next week.
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. It was a busy night...getting Petey to the vet and the kids home nd fed. The kids got Pizza while my dogs ate real food! LOL. His vomit just looked like food.
I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again.
Any suggestions how long I should keep him on the rice and chicken??
