My dog weighs <25 lbs. He "hip checks" me often. It seems cute, but perhaps I misinterpret and it is super rude. Should it be stopped? He is 15 -16 mos.
When I'm getting my outdoor clothes on (a production) is the worst.
I get hip checked too after putting on the hiking clothes and picking up the leash, I think it is more an excitement thing; he gives little woofs and prances forward and then spins back checking me in the spin cycle. I love the exuberance so I sometimes let him do it a couple of times before having him sit and putting on his leash. Once the leash is on he runs to the stairs steps back and lets me pass, races to the landing stops again until I am at the door and release him to come.
He tries hard to contain himself but just can't ; I figure as long as he'll sit for the leash and not throw me down the stairs, I'm good with it.
BTW this is a daily occurrence.... I wish I could be as excited about routine. That is why dogs rule.
Thank you Sheila, I was taking it as a sign of exuberance,
thinking maybe as alpha dog I shouldn't sweat it. The spin cycle! That's great!
All summer (warm) it was just sit and walk out. Now it takes awhile for the me to get out the door.
He makes other dogs I've owned seem like they might have been plants or fish.
I'm not getting hip checked, but bundling up for winter walks (1'' of snow today at training!) is getting annoying. By the time I'm dressed and ready to go the dogs are BURSTING with excitement. Look out kids, or cats!
It's kinda fun to see the dogs get excited when it's time to go out to do something.
Collars get taken out of the basket, both dogs start in.......BUT nothing happens, nothing. Not even while putting the collars on, until each sits quietly. No squirming, no whinning, no jumping around and difinitely no jamming into me. Wagging tails are okay.lol
Any breaks from the rules, collars are thrown back into the basket, I take off my coat and we start over.
