I've been feeding my 9.5 month old rottweiler Orijen Redmeat formula for a few months now and he loves it. He is growing nice and slowly which is exactly what I want. The only issue is that he has had soft stool for a long time now. It's not liquid or even pudding - it still keeps its general shape but is not a hard poop. I'd say it's halfway between hard and pudding..?
Is there anything I can add to his kibble to harden things up on a long term basis? Is there a different kibble I should go with? I pay almost $100 / month for this food, but I feel like it's worth it because his coat is very healthy, he has lots of energy, and is generally a healthy dog. Could it have too many oils in it for him possibly?
Currently he's been getting about 1.5 cups 3x per day = 4.5 cups / day. With this amount he gains very slowly, but consistently.
I was under the impression that his poop would be harder than it is. Just to compare, my neighbors dog has poop that comes out hard. Like it literally stays as a long log. Arnold (my dog) will have a few inches come out and then plops down. Sorry if this is a goofy description, but it's all I can think of to describe it. I will try to get a picture of his next one.
I see your goofy description and raise you a goofy poop test.
If you poked a stick through it, would it pick the turd up?
Shockingly, I'd still like to see a picture of your dog's poop. Never woulda thunk I would write that in a sentence.
Now that's one I've never heard.....
I've heard more things I've never heard before on this forum and I'd wager 95.8 percent can be attributed to Michael W. and 99.99 of those involve poo. The remaining degree pertains to his wafghan.
